Share

Café Black Mamba has exposed building materials, suspended tube lights and acacia tables around a custom-built coffee bar in Providencia, east of Santiago’s historic centre. The espresso machine and pastry cabinet share the room with people settling in for breakfast. Allow time for a flat white and a cooked breakfast.

Nicolás Riquelme and Paloma Valdéz started Black Mamba after living in Melbourne. Their current cafe opened in February 2025, with more seats than the previous premises. The Australian influence is clearest in the small milk coffees and substantial breakfasts.

Coffee

Start with the flat white, a 160ml drink made with a double espresso. Cappuccino and mocaccino use double ristretto, with Peruvian cocoa in the latter. Original Green Roasters supplies coffee, and the team also brings in guest roasters. Ask which origin is on the grinder before choosing a black coffee. For a sweeter drink, there is a salted-caramel latte; matcha and alternative milks give non-coffee drinkers several options.

Filter

Manual filter is served in roughly 240ml portions, with origins chosen at the bar. Ask what is open today before choosing your filter. Confirm the price of your chosen coffee before ordering; the menu’s CLP4,500 is a starting price, and special lots can cost considerably more.

Food

Breakfast can mean Turkish eggs over ricotta and yoghurt, hummus toast with beetroot relish, or vegan French toast filled with peanut-butter mousse. There are meat dishes as well as plant-based options. Later, pressed sandwiches and rotating weekday lunches extend the visit beyond coffee and cake. House-made sweets include lemon squares, brownies and banana bread. Check the breakfast service times if eggs are the plan: the all-day toast menu continues after the morning specials finish.

Service & Room

Take a table for breakfast or lunch, or tell the team if you are ordering to go. The larger room still gets crowded, and service can slow down when orders build up. Laptops do appear, but the noise and table demand make this a better bet for conversation than concentrated work. Opening until 8pm leaves room for an afternoon coffee after the lunch rush.

Why Filter Notes shortlisted Café Black Mamba

Choose Black Mamba for a small flat white with a cooked breakfast, or a guest-roaster filter and a sandwich. The changing coffees and broad kitchen justify a sit-down visit; allow time for service and check special-coffee prices at the bar.
