Agreement

These terms apply when you use Filter Notes. By creating an account or continuing to use an account, you agree to them. Our Privacy notice explains how we handle personal information. Creating an account does not subscribe you to marketing emails.

The service

Filter Notes is an editorial coffee guide with account features for saving cafes, recording visits, sharing a passport, contributing field notes or comments, and using location or planning tools. We may add, change, suspend, or remove features as the service develops.

Reviews and recommendations are editorial opinions, not guarantees. Opening hours, menus, prices, accessibility, allergens, availability, and other practical details can change. Check important information with the venue before travelling, ordering, or making a purchase. Location and route information is approximate and should not be used for safety-critical navigation.

Your account

• Provide an email address you are entitled to use and keep your password confidential.
• Do not share an account in a way that compromises its security or impersonates another person.
• You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless it results from our failure to use reasonable security.
• Tell us promptly at hello@filternotes.com if you believe an account has been compromised.

The service is not directed at children under 13. If you are not legally able to agree to these terms yourself, a parent or guardian must do so for you.

Acceptable use

Do not use Filter Notes to:

• break the law, threaten or harass people, invade privacy, or publish discriminatory, defamatory, deceptive, or obscene material;
• upload malware, probe security, evade access controls or rate limits, scrape at a harmful scale, or interfere with the service;
• post spam, undisclosed paid promotion, fabricated experiences, or content that infringes copyright, trade marks, confidentiality, image rights, or other rights; or
• collect or expose another person’s personal information without a lawful reason and appropriate permission.

We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or close an account where reasonably necessary to enforce these terms, protect people, or secure the service.

Your contributions

You keep ownership of content you submit. You confirm that you created it or have the rights and permissions needed to share it. You give Filter Notes a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, format, moderate, and display that content as needed to operate and promote the service. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies already shared by others, reasonable backup periods, and material we must retain for legal reasons.

We may review submissions before or after publication and may edit for formatting, clarity, privacy, or moderation without changing their essential meaning. We are not obliged to publish or retain a submission. Email us if you want us to review or remove content associated with you.

Our content

Filter Notes and its licensors own the service, branding, design, software, original photography and illustrations, and editorial material, except for user contributions and identified third-party material. You may use the service for personal, non-commercial purposes and share links to public pages. You may not republish a substantial part of the guide, build a competing database from it, remove attribution, or commercially exploit our content without written permission.

Third-party services

Filter Notes links to maps, cafes, roasters, shops, social networks, and other third parties. We do not control their content, availability, privacy practices, products, or transactions. A link, price, or product mention is not a guarantee or endorsement, and any purchase or booking is between you and the third party.

Availability and responsibility

We provide Filter Notes with reasonable care, but the service may occasionally be unavailable or contain errors. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation. Subject to that, we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, business losses arising from personal use, or acts and omissions of venues and other third parties.

Ending an account

You may delete your account from the account page. We may suspend or end an account for a serious or repeated breach, security risk, legal requirement, or discontinuation of the service. Provisions that by their nature need to continue—such as ownership, licences for retained copies, and limits of responsibility—survive account closure.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the service, law, or risk. We will update the effective date and give reasonable notice of material changes where appropriate. If you do not agree to a material change, you may stop using the service and delete your account.
