The Room is hidden on the first floor of the Bintaro Parkview commercial and apartment complex in Pesanggrahan, near Jakarta's south-western edge. Its original bar occupies roughly four square metres: a compact modular counter, coffee equipment kept within arm's reach and only a few places to sit before the visit spills into the corridor outside. Ask security for Tower A25 if the entrance is not obvious. This is a destination for one carefully chosen coffee and a conversation with the barista, not a central cafe for a large group or a day on a laptop.
Start with a filter from the changing bean list, or try the house Mont Blanc for something richer. Founder Ryan Wibawa brings a competition-brewing background to a very small bar. Staff guide visitors through local and international coffees, with espresso and matcha also available.
Coffee
Espresso beans rotate, with the barista explaining the available origins. The small counter makes it easy to ask a question while your drink is prepared.
Mont Blanc is the recurring signature. The Room builds it on espresso, adds a smooth cream layer and finishes it with orange zest. The result is richer than the filter programme but still connected to the coffee beneath it; citrus keeps the foam from reading as a dessert topping alone. Order it after a straight coffee, or make it the main reason for a first visit if you prefer a cold, textured drink. Matcha appears often enough in customer accounts to make the bar workable for a mixed pair, though coffee remains the point.
Filter
Ryan Wibawa placed third in the 2024 World Brewers Cup and represented The Room and Indonesia again in 2026. At the bar, the changing filter list includes Indonesian and international coffees. The barista can narrow the choice by acidity, sweetness or process.
The appeal is the chance to follow a brew closely and talk through the recipe with the person making it. Special lots can be expensive, so confirm the price before ordering. Seating is too limited for a large group.
Pastry
The small pastry selection changes. Treat it as something to have with coffee and eat elsewhere if you need a full meal.
Service & Room
The original bar was built in a two-by-two-metre space connected to Wibawa's apartment. Equipment, cups and stools sit close together, with extra seating in the corridor. It puts the brewing within easy view but leaves little room to spread out.
Bintaro Park View is far south-west of the central districts where many visitors stay. The counter is inside the complex, with a few extra chairs in the corridor. Regular hours are 6am–8pm daily. The Room also has a larger bar at Enchanté in BSD, outside Jakarta city; the address and map here are for the original Pesanggrahan counter.
Why Filter Notes shortlisted The Room
The Bintaro counter is a distinctive stop for a guided filter or an espresso-and-orange Mont Blanc. Go alone or with one other person, and ask security for Tower A25 if you cannot find the entrance. It is a long way from central Jakarta for a casual coffee.
