Large black DARG letters run down the concrete doorway on Evridamantos, in Neos Kosmos, south of Athens’ historic centre. Inside, the small, dark room has collage-covered walls, an Ozzy Osbourne record and a roasting machine. Come for a single-origin espresso, then stay for a filter to compare coffees. Add a slice of cake if you want something to eat.
Coffee
Anargyros Fakos roasts here on a Silon ZR7 and represented Greece at the 2025 World Coffee Roasting Championship. The choice at the espresso counter extends beyond a single house blend. Ethiopian and Colombian coffees have featured alongside other origins, with a Slayer machine used for espresso. Ask what is on the grinders before ordering, especially if you want a fruitier cup.
The menu also covers flat whites, cappuccinos and freddo espresso, the Greek iced espresso that makes a good first order on a hot afternoon. Cold brew is also available.
Filter
Origami and V60 brews give you another way to try the house roasts, with Guatemala among the origins served. Lots change, so choose from the current selection instead of arriving for a particular farm or variety. Staff can talk through the options before you commit to a cup.
Bags of beans are sold to take home, including decaf. Taste first, then ask which coffee and grind suit your brewer. The retail range includes everyday espresso coffees and more expensive small lots, with 250g bags available.
Food
Banana bread, carrot cake and lemon-and-poppy-seed cake make this an easy coffee-and-cake stop. Sandwiches provide a savoury option; check the counter for the day’s selection.
Service & Room
The compact room keeps you close to the brewing counter and roaster, with a few tables outside. Ask the baristas to help choose a coffee; they can explain the differences between the beans. Come alone or with one companion if you want to sit and compare drinks, and ask whether a roast is running if you want to watch.
Why Filter Notes shortlisted Darg
Make the detour south for coffee roasted on site, a choice of espresso and a hand-brewed filter. Add cake and a bag of beans if you have time. Darg suits a visit built around tasting and conversation; seating in the small room is the main constraint.
