Broad windows, a red espresso machine and a curved wooden counter face Praxitelous at ANÄNA, in central Athens north of Monastiraki Square. Behind the café, yellow tables fill a small inner courtyard. Come with time for the Coffee Triplet — espresso, cortado and a hand brew — then choose something from the vegetarian cake counter.
Coffee
ANÄNA roasts a changing selection of single origins in Cholargos, northeast of the centre. Its roasts range from light to medium. The Coffee Triplet draws on the weekly coffee menu, letting you compare a short black coffee, a small milk drink and a longer brew in one visit. Ask which beans are being used that week.
For a single drink, choose between espresso, freddo, batch brew and the brewed-to-order ‘ritual brew’. Recent espresso choices have included naturally processed Colombia La Piragua alongside the seasonal Sundae blend. These rotate, so check the day’s menu. Retail bags let you take a favourite home.
Cake & courtyard
The café serves cinnamon rolls, banana bread, changing cakes and vegetarian sandwiches. Some options are vegan, though the whole menu is not, and plant milk costs extra. The kitchen closes before the café; later in the day, food depends on what remains in the display.
Seating extends from the street-side benches to the courtyard. Ask where to order before settling down: counter-service and table-service areas differ, and busy periods can bring a wait. Allow time for the tasting trio, especially if you want a courtyard table.
