Trace Roasting Co. sits on a smaller street in Setiabudi, the hotel and office district in South Jakarta. A long coffee bar, cake case and shared indoor table occupy the compact café, with a separate roasting room and concrete seating outside. Look carefully for the entrance at number 27; the frontage is easy to miss.
Come for Indonesian coffees roasted by Trace, with time to ask about the beans before choosing a drink. The café was renovated for its 2025 reopening, but indoor seating is still limited. A solo visit or a coffee with one friend works better here than arriving with a large group.
Coffee
Try the house roasts as espresso or a piccolo, a small milk coffee that keeps the espresso prominent. The baristas can explain the beans on offer and help you choose a coffee for drinking black or with milk.
Filter
Manual brewing is a substantial part of the offer, with V60 and Kalita preparations and Indonesian lots from growing areas including Ijen, Bali, West Java and Sumatra. The bean selection changes, with different processing methods to compare. An iced hand brew is a good starting point in Jakarta’s heat. Ask what is available that day, then buy a bag of the coffee you enjoyed for brewing at home.
Food
The cake case offers a smaller accompaniment to coffee, including croissants and bolu jadul, an Indonesian sponge cake with chocolate sprinkles or grated cheese. For a meal, the menu extends to fish and chips with sambal matah, chicken parmigiana and rice bowls. Check which dishes the kitchen is serving when you arrive. Hojicha, a roasted Japanese tea, gives non-coffee drinkers another option.
Service & Room
The shared table has power sockets, and both indoor air conditioning and outdoor seating make a longer stay possible. Seats inside can fill in the afternoon; outside, expect heat and a smoking area. Wi-Fi is available. If you plan to stay with a laptop, check that you have a seat before settling in. Bring a cashless payment method.
