Academy Coffee occupies a corner of Kinship Butcher & Sundry in Virginia-Highland, northeast of downtown Atlanta. Behind the gold-lettered windows are a small window bench, provisions shelves and a coffee bar serving cocktail-style drinks. Its autumn Moon Rabbit flat white combines oolong, adzuki red bean and salt; a Kinship breakfast sandwich turns the stop into a meal.
Coffee & seasonal drinks
Connan Moody's coffee and cocktail background shows in a menu that changes with the seasons. Alongside Moon Rabbit, the autumn 2026 selection includes La Mesa, a cappuccino with toasted corn flour, cocoa, cinnamon and piloncillo, and Get Figgy With It, a matcha flat white with fig leaf and almond. Check the seasonal menu before ordering a familiar drink.
For an unflavoured coffee, ask about the espresso choices. Native Coffee Company became Academy's regular roaster in September 2026, alongside a rotating guest espresso. The partnership launched with single origins from Panama and Colombia, with bags to take home at weekends.
Food & the visit
Kinship's breakfast sandwiches combine egg, Thomasville Tomme cheese, griddled onions, arugula and mayo, with bacon, sausage, no-meat or veggie options. They're substantial enough to plan breakfast around, and the kitchen serves them until 4pm. Lunch sandwiches start at 11am; coffee continues after the kitchen closes.
This is a working butcher and grocery as well as a coffee bar, so there is little room to spread out. Seats outside offer more space, but expect queues at busy times. Come for a seasonal drink and breakfast, or ask the baristas about the guest espresso and take a bag home; plan a short visit if the outdoor seats are full.
