Blue brickwork wraps around Slow Day Coffee's corner in Belltown, just north of Pike Place Market in central Seattle. Big street windows light a tiny room of blue walls, white shelves and coffee equipment. There is barely room to sit; come alone or with one friend and spend your time at the counter.
Coffee
The changing selection brings together roasters from the US and overseas, with light roasts and fruit-forward single origins at its centre. Ask which beans are on espresso before choosing your drink. Milk drinks are listed by size; choose a smaller one for a stronger coffee-to-milk ratio. Oat milk and vanilla cost no extra; matcha and cold brew are also available.
For black coffee, choose a hand brew from the rotating list. A 300g pour-over is priced by the coffee, while the $4 fast pour-over gives you a cheaper starting point. There is no batch drip. Ask about origin and processing, and check the price before picking a rarer lot. Browse the retail bags if you want to brew more at home.
Service & Room
The baristas can talk through the coffees and help narrow the choice. Allow time for that conversation and for brewing, even if you are taking your drink away. The very few seats suit a short coffee stop. Plan breakfast elsewhere and arrive before the daily two o'clock close.
