Schot's bar and roastery sit inside Huidenclub, an arts and design space west of central Rotterdam. A wooden mezzanine and old industrial doors divide the former warehouse, with exhibitions alongside the café. Come to try a coffee that catches your eye on the retail shelf: most of Schot's range can be brewed here, including its competition lots.
Coffee
There are two espresso choices, batch brew and hand brews. A V60 is the order for exploring a particular lot before buying beans for home. Schot concentrates on washed, honey and natural coffees, with a smaller selection of anaerobic lots; it avoids co-fermented and infused coffees. Bags of beans and brewing equipment are sold here too.
Room & visit
The café occupies part of the Diepeveen building, with tall windows, exposed columns and a large terrace. Expect a spacious industrial room with bare surfaces. Food is a small selection of lunch dishes, cakes and pastries; look for carrot cake or banana bread to go with your coffee.
Use the rear entrance on Diepeveenstraat and plan a Wednesday-to-Sunday visit, leaving time for a hand brew and an exhibition. Check Huidenclub's programme if a particular show matters to you. Monday and Tuesday bean pickup does not include bar service.
