NOMAD Coffee has several Barcelona addresses, but this review is anchored at Frutas Selectas on Carrer de Pujades in Poblenou, east of the old city and a short walk from Llacuna metro. The room has the scale the older NOMAD counters deliberately avoid: a broad service counter, pastry case, retail shelves, tables, warm wood, and enough visible floor to make the visit feel like more than a quick espresso correction.
That size is the reason to choose this NOMAD over the tighter Coffee Bar in El Born or the small central Petit Nomad. Frutas Selectas grew out of the brand's old public roastery space, then was remade as a cafe for people who want to sit down, compare coffees, eat something proper, and leave with beans. It is still a coffee-first stop, but it gives the coffee a fuller room around it.
Coffee
Start with the house-roasted menu. NOMAD separates coffees by role rather than treating every bag as interchangeable: approachable espresso profiles, filter roasts built for clarity, limited lots, decaf, cold coffee, and retail bags with enough origin and process detail for a curious home brewer. At the bar that translates into espresso, milk drinks, batch brew, and slower cups without making the room feel like a laboratory.
The best first order depends on how long you have. A flat white or espresso keeps the visit quick and clean; batch brew is the better everyday measure of the roastery; the special filter lane is where Frutas Selectas earns the detour. If you are buying beans, use the shelf as part of the visit rather than a last-minute grab by the till.
Filter
Filter is the strongest reason to slow down here. NOMAD's public language around roast profile points toward faster, clearer filter development, and the cafe is set up so those coffees can be brewed, explained, and sold for home without derailing service. Ask what is tasting brightest, what is on batch, and what the staff would take home; this room rewards that small conversation more than a blind order from the board.
The filter program also gives the page its honest tradeoff. Frutas Selectas is more exposed and busier than a hidden coffee bar, so it is not the place for hushed tasting-room theatre. Its advantage is that a high-grade filter can sit beside lunch plates, takeaway orders, and a retail shelf without losing its place.
Food
Food is broader than a token croissant. Expect pastries, sandwiches, toasts, and a changing lunch line, with plant milk and vegan or vegetarian options often part of the offer. The food helps the Pujades room carry a late-morning or lunch stop, especially if you are already in Poblenou rather than cutting through the centre.
Still, this is not a brunch page in disguise. Order food because the room gives you time for it: coffee first, something from the case or lunch counter if it looks right, then beans for later. The pastry and lunch side makes the visit easier to plan, but it should not distract from the filter and retail shelf.
Service & Room
Frutas Selectas is the most relaxed NOMAD room to use, but not always the quietest. The counter, tables, and front terrace pull in coffee visitors, office traffic, local regulars, and people treating Pujades as a specialty-coffee street. At peak times the queue can stretch the visit; off peak, the staff have more room to talk through beans, batch brew, or a special filter.
The redesign gives the cafe a softer register than the brand's older minimalist bars. Wood, natural light, a visible pastry case, and retail shelving make it feel warmer than a pure brew counter, while the industrial bones keep it from becoming a generic all-day cafe. Come for a table when you want coffee plus food; choose the smaller NOMAD addresses when you want the sharper, shorter version.
Why Filter Notes shortlisted NOMAD Coffee
Filter Notes shortlisted NOMAD Coffee because Frutas Selectas gives Barcelona the most complete public expression of one of its defining roasters: house-roasted espresso and filter, a retail shelf worth browsing, a room large enough for lunch or a second cup, and enough staff knowledge to make the choice of beans feel practical. Cross town for filter, retail bags, and the full Pujades room; know before going that it is busier and less intimate than NOMAD's smaller counters.
