Oidé occupies a small, split-level room in Arthur Erickson's Waterfall Building, south of downtown by the entrance to Granville Island. Below the ordering counter, pale wooden benches and blue artwork break up the bare concrete. Come for the chance to drink coffees from Canadian and European specialists in one place, with baristas who can explain how the day's beans taste through their own brewing.
Coffee
The selection gives that promise substance: Amsterdam's Dak and Denmark's Coffee Collective have featured on filter, while the wider catalogue includes Canada's Hatch and Rogue Wave. Those names are examples of the rotation, not a permanent drinks list. Ask which coffee is on espresso before ordering; a straight shot or piccolo is a good way to get acquainted with it. Kento and Rika Kitayama began with a tiny coffee window in 2018, and the attention to individual drinks still makes more sense of Oidé than its photogenic interior alone.
Filter
Pour-over is the strongest reason to make a dedicated visit. Orea brewers have been used for a compact selection spanning Coffee Collective coffees and more adventurous processed lots from Dak, including smaller premium servings. That offers a way to try an unfamiliar coffee without committing to a whole bag. Ask what's available and whether it leans towards clean, delicate flavours or pronounced fruit and fermentation; the choice on bar is narrower than the retail range.
For home brewers, the next stop is the beans and equipment. Tell the barista what you brew with and which cup you enjoyed before choosing a bag. Oidé sells brewers, filters and other tools alongside the coffee, but does not grind retail beans: bring a grinder into your plans if you're buying for a hotel stay.
Pastry
Croissants and cookies make this a coffee-and-pastry stop; choose from the day's case. Keep the visit centred on the drinks rather than planning a full breakfast here. Oidé's LABO space at 1886 Scotia Street, east of this café in Mount Pleasant, adds roasting and baking to the business. It operates separately with changing soft-opening hours.
Service & Room
Order upstairs, then head down the short staircase and your drink is brought over. Benches, stools and a standing ledge favour a solo cup or conversation with one friend; there are few tables to spread out at. Coffee advice can be detailed, but service can also feel firm or brusque. Come with a question about the beans, without expecting a lengthy tasting session.
Why Filter Notes shortlisted Oidé Coffee
Oidé earns its place for the combination of international coffee selection, individual pour-over brewing and a retail range that rewards home-coffee curiosity. Make the detour for a filter coffee you haven't tried, then take beans home if something catches your attention. The Waterfall Building gives that visit a memorable setting; limited seating and a small brew menu keep it best suited to a focused coffee stop.
