Torque Coffee

City Heights, San Diego

Cross City Heights for expressive espresso and filter roasted behind the bar, then browse beans with transparent producer pricing; early closing and busy seating need planning.

Share

Torque occupies the restored Rock Palace on El Cajon Boulevard, east of central San Diego at the edge of City Heights. North-facing windows light the long room, with separate hot and cold drink stations at the counter and a small roaster toward the back.

Coffee

Contrasting espresso coffees allow a choice of flavour profile. Torque groups its range along classic-to-modern and lively-to-syrupy scales, with blends and single-producer coffees sold in bags. Its public pricing information sets out the amount paid at origin.

Filter

Pour-over and batch brew use the changing roasting range. Washed, natural and more experimental processes appear among the coffees, giving filter drinkers several styles to choose from.

Food

Food accompanies the drinks, but the offer changes. Check the current menu before planning a meal around a dish from an earlier review.

Service & Room

High ceilings, local art, shelves of beans and the roaster remain visible from the seating area. Tables and outside benches provide a short sit-down; the cafe closes at 2pm on weekdays and 3pm at weekends.

Why Filter Notes shortlisted Torque Coffee
