Pale walls, high ceilings and large plants surround the tables at Futura’s Glisan café in Montavilla, east of central Portland. Order a house-roasted single-origin drip or pour-over with the choripán breakfast sandwich, then settle in with a book or laptop.
Coffee
Choose between blend and single-origin drip, or a pour-over from the regular and special-reserve coffees. Espresso drinks use blends as standard, with a single-origin option for an extra charge. Natural processing and fruit-led flavours recur across the selection; ask what is brewing if you prefer a darker roast. Partners Felipe Sardi and Sebastian Villamizar own coffee farming projects in Colombia and Panama, while cofounder CJ Speelman roasts in Portland.
For beans to take home, the changing range has included Julio Bermudez through La Palma & El Tucán, alongside the Colombia-and-Panama Love blend. Housemade syrups have included hibiscus-rose and pistachio-cardamom; check the current board for seasonal drinks.
Food & visiting
The breakfast choripán contains chorizo, chimichurri, garlic aioli and arugula in an English muffin. The café also serves bagels, pastries and a mozzarella sandwich with sun-dried tomato pesto.
Plan a daytime visit: Glisan closes in the afternoon. Futura also has an Arbor Lodge café at 1507 N Rosa Parks Way in North Portland; the room described here is the Glisan location.
