Dayglow

Silver Lake, Los Angeles

A colorful Silver Lake multi-roaster for rare filter coffees, serious bean browsing, and signature drinks that go far beyond the standard cafe menu.

Share

Dayglow's Silver Lake room is still the clearest way into the brand: a compact, color-coded coffee bar on Sunset with bright retail shelves, a small set of seats, and a menu that treats coffee like something closer to a record shop than a morning utility.

It began here in 2018, according to Dayglow's own story, and the original still makes the strongest case for why the name travels so well: rare beans, unusual roasters, playful drinks, and enough visual charge to make the stop feel specific to Los Angeles.

Coffee style

The coffee program is the reason to cross town. Dayglow built its reputation as a maximalist multi-roaster, pulling from domestic and international names rather than asking one house profile to do everything. The best order is often a pour-over or handbrew chosen from the current shelf, followed by a second pass through the retail wall.

The list changes, but the promise is consistent: high-expression coffees, often light-roast and fruit-forward, with staff who can help narrow the choice without flattening the fun.

The signature drinks are the other half of the visit. Dayglow has long treated coffee drinks with a cocktail-bar imagination, using tonics, matcha, coconut, black sesame, cream tops, and seasonal builds that make the menu feel slightly absurd in the right way. Not every drink will suit a straight-espresso purist, and prices can climb quickly.

The feel

Food is secondary. Pastries and donuts show up as useful companions rather than the reason to plan the stop, so choose Dayglow for a cup and a browse, not for a full breakfast. Seating is limited, parking around Sunset can be awkward, and the pace may slow when complex drinks stack up.

Why Dayglow is shortlisted by Filter Notes

Dayglow is shortlisted because it gives Los Angeles one of its most distinctive coffee formats: part filter bar, part retail shelf, part neon lab. Cross town for the rare beans, the handbrew list, and the oddball signature drinks; know before going that it is better for a focused coffee stop than a long cafe settle-in.
