Lugar Nenhum

Anjos, Lisbon

A hidden Anjos room for changing La Cabra filter, a seasonal breakfast, and one communal table; go early and leave the laptop elsewhere.

Share

Lugar Nenhum is hidden below street level on a narrow lane in Anjos, north of central Lisbon, and reached by a short staircase rather than a shopfront. Inside, three counters and an open kitchen surround one long wooden table. Raw walls, warm lamps, magazines and ceramics soften the industrial shell. Nearly everyone shares the same table, creating quiet conversation without the privacy of a conventional cafe.

Ricardo Galésio, who previously created Hello, Kristof and Dramático, opened Lugar Nenhum in November 2025. Coffee comes from Copenhagen roaster La Cabra, with origins changing through the year; a short seasonal breakfast menu is joined by Padaria 110 pastries. Order hand brew with a savoury plate, leave the laptop elsewhere and arrive well before the kitchen closes at 2:30pm.

Coffee

La Cabra anchors the bar. Espresso and filter rotate as new lots arrive, giving Lugar Nenhum a clear Nordic reference without turning it into a branded showroom. Ask which coffee is most expressive as hand brew; choose espresso if time is short. Cappuccino, latte, mocha and espresso tonic widen the menu, while Kettl matcha provides a strong non-coffee order.

The changing origins reward repeat visits. A coffee served as espresso one week may give way to a lighter, more aromatic filter lot the next, and retail bags carry those changes home. Staff can explain the selection, but the room is not hushed or ceremonial: breakfast and conversation share the same table as the coffee.

Breakfast & pastry

The small seasonal kitchen has served pea smash with parmesan and chilli, Hokkaido pumpkin with burrata and seeds, and Greek yoghurt with granola, poached pear and honey. House banana bread is the simplest pairing, while Padaria 110 supplies pastry. Dishes change, so read these as the kitchen's direction rather than a fixed menu.

One savoury plate and filter make the most complete order. The short menu can sell out or change without warning, and the kitchen closes an hour before the cafe. Arrive before 1:30pm if food matters, especially on Saturday, then use the rest of the visit for another coffee.

Room & service

The eighteen-seat table defines the room, keeps the open kitchen in view and prevents the basement becoming a grid of laptop stations. Warm pools of light and handmade objects take the edge off the concrete and stainless steel. Seats are finite, with nowhere else to go when the table is full, and the hidden entrance makes a first visit slightly harder than the map suggests.

Service is calm and direct, whether the question concerns the current La Cabra lot or the kitchen. The no-laptop rule keeps seats for coffee, food and conversation. A weekday morning is the easiest time to appreciate the room; Saturday brings more energy and a greater chance of waiting.

Why Filter Notes shortlisted Lugar Nenhum

Lugar Nenhum belongs on a Lisbon shortlist for La Cabra filter, a compact seasonal kitchen and a basement room built around one communal table. The experience is more intimate than Hello, Kristof and more food-led than Dramático, giving Ricardo Galésio's newest cafe its own reason to exist.

Go on a weekday morning for hand brew, a savoury plate and, if there is room, banana bread or a Padaria 110 pastry. Expect a hidden staircase, communal seating, no laptops and a kitchen that finishes before the cafe closes. Lugar Nenhum is made for a focused breakfast and a genuine pause, not a day spent occupying a table.

Voices on Lugar Nenhum

“O café é La Cabra, uma torrefacção de Copenhaga e a proveniência vai mudando de lote para lote, e ao longo do ano.”

“High quality coffee with a good selection of quick bites too. You have to walk down a staircase. It's not on the main road.”
