Ordinary Coffee Roasters occupies a small side-street showroom at the northern end of Leipziger Straße in Bockenheim, west of central Frankfurt. Pale walls and a concrete floor frame a handmade dark-timber brew bar, two rounded stools, slim metal shelves of drippers and coffee samples, and a front window that brings daylight into the compact room. At the counter, staff can talk you through the coffees, their producers and how they are brewed.
Founders Levin Schrey-Exner and Jonas Hoffmann roast a range of very light coffees. The showroom serves them as espresso, pour-over, flat whites, lattes and iced drinks. Seating and food are limited, so come to taste coffee and browse the beans rather than for brunch or a long work session.
Coffee
Ordinary favours light and sometimes ultra-light roasts, from washed coffees with floral notes and clean acidity to naturals and experimental lots with stronger fruit and fermentation flavours. Recent releases have included washed Rwanda, natural Ethiopia, Colombian Sidra, Ecuadorian Typica hybrids and Gesha. Ask staff which coffees are ready to drink; very light roasts can need more time to rest.
A straight espresso shows the brightness of the roast, while a flat white softens the acidity. Natural-process coffees can taste fruitier and more fermented than a traditional chocolate-led espresso. Ask about the sugar-cane decaf if it is available.
Filter
Any current roast can be brewed to order as a pour-over. Washed Rwandan coffee can show citrus and sweetness, while natural Ethiopian or processed Colombian lots may bring berries, tropical fruit, floral or fermented notes. Staff can help you choose.
Ask about roast dates and brewing recipes if you are buying beans for home. Prices can rise for rare lots and more elaborate processing, so check before ordering.
Food
Cookies and organic pastel de nata have appeared alongside the coffee; other drinks can include matcha, iced coffee and bottled kombucha. Food is limited, so eat beforehand if you want a full meal.

Schrey-Exner and Hoffmann worked at Hoppenworth & Ploch and drei kaffeebar before opening Ordinary. At the counter, they can offer advice on producers, processing, decaf and roast profiles.
The two counter stools and small window-side area fill quickly. Ordinary sits on a quiet residential street, a short detour from the shops on Bockenheim's Leipziger Straße. Visit off-peak if you would like a seat.
