An orange and terracotta tiled counter brightens Pontes' small white room in Valby, southwest of central Copenhagen. Orange speakers hang overhead; a compact roaster works in the back. Owners Brian Christie and Andreas May opened the café in 2025, bringing their roasting business into a neighbourhood coffee bar.
Coffee
The beans are roasted here in small batches, with natural and honey-processed coffees among the changing selection. Some lots take a more experimental route through fermentation. Ask what's on espresso and filter, and say whether you want a clean, floral cup or something fruitier and more pronounced. Both batch brew and hand-poured filter are available, with bags to take home once you've found a coffee you like.
Milk drinks use plant milks throughout. The coconut iced latte is a popular order, while espresso and a smaller milk drink give you other ways into the house coffee. There is decaf and cold brew too. The owners are happy to explain the beans and help match a milk to your drink; leave a little time for that conversation.
Pastry
Ameta Bakery supplies the plant-based pastries, with croissants, cookies and banana bread among the options.
Service & Room
There are only a few indoor seats, with some seating outside. Come alone or with one other person if you want to sit and talk coffee; a large group will find the room restrictive. Plan around the Monday and Tuesday closure.
