Coffee in Soho, London, and nearby

Nagare in Carnaby, with three nearby alternatives for a West End coffee break: Omotesando, Kaffeine and Monmouth.

Filter Notes · Updated · Map ↓

Soho’s coffee options become more useful when the boundaries are made clear. Nagare on Newburgh Street is the Soho address in this selection. Omotesando and Kaffeine sit north of Oxford Street in Fitzrovia, while Monmouth is to the east in Seven Dials. They are nearby alternatives for a West End day, rather than cafés all within the same neighbourhood.

Choose Nagare around Carnaby, Omotesando near Tottenham Court Road, Kaffeine towards Oxford Circus or Monmouth when your walk reaches Seven Dials. Each offers a different reason to stop, from a carefully chosen brew to a quick milk coffee or beans for home. There is no need to cross the whole area for four cups; use the map to find the one that fits.

Nagare

Nagare’s Carnaby branch is the place to begin if staying in Soho matters. The Newburgh Street address brings the operator into the streets around Carnaby, making it a useful coffee stop between shops or before meeting someone nearby. It also avoids turning a search for coffee in Soho into an unannounced trip across Oxford Street.

Our main review centres on the filter selection and changing coffees at Brushfield Street. That gives a reason to ask what the Carnaby team is brewing, rather than assuming the same beans or methods are always available in both cafés. Choose from the current list and allow a little time if you order a hand brew. The main illustration shows Spitalfields; its small-room description belongs to that branch, while the address and map here are for Newburgh Street.

Omotesando Koffee

Across Oxford Street, Omotesando Koffee offers a more deliberate pause on Newman Street. Pale timber and a compact central counter give the room a spare, orderly feel, with the preparation of drinks kept in view. It is close enough to fit around Tottenham Court Road, but it belongs to Fitzrovia rather than Soho.

Espresso or pour-over makes a sensible starting point; the iced cappuccino and small custard kashi offer a more distinctive order when available. The menu also gives room to matcha, without making coffee an afterthought. Limited seating shapes the visit, so arrive expecting a focused cup rather than a guaranteed place to spend an afternoon. The quiet visual treatment of the bar is part of the appeal, even when the surrounding West End streets are busy.

Kaffeine

Kaffeine is the nearby option for the Oxford Circus end of the day. Great Titchfield Street takes you into Fitzrovia and to a brisk coffee bar where the counter, pastry display and small tables compete for space. There is little ceremony to the visit: order, find a perch if one is free and let the movement of the room carry the break.

A flat white or long black is a natural choice, with batch brew for a simpler black-coffee order. The changing food menu can make breakfast more substantial than a croissant, though the café remains compact. Choose it when you want a lively short stop rather than a hushed tasting room. At peak times, the available seats and takeaway queue are better guides to how long to stay than any plan made before arriving.

Monmouth Coffee

Monmouth is the eastern alternative, on Monmouth Street in Seven Dials. It is useful when a Soho walk continues towards Covent Garden and you want coffee with a purpose beyond the immediate cup. The roaster-retailer format makes beans for home part of the visit, with the current brewed coffee providing a starting point for what to buy.

Ask about the day’s filter and explain how you brew at home if you want help choosing beans. This is a focused stop rather than a promise of a long comfortable sit. Monmouth is closed on Sundays, and takeaway coffee requires a reusable cup brought with you or bought at the shop.
