Godshot in Berlin

Godshot

Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin

Share

Godshot sits on a quiet Prenzlauer Berg street with a chrome machine at the bar, a few seats out front, and more room tucked onto the mezzanine and lower ground. It remains one of Berlin's clearest espresso bars: coffee-first, light on food, and strong on the sort of shot that gives the place its name.

The split setup helps. Immanuelkirchstraße 32 is the everyday coffeeshop, while the separate Godshot Coffee Lab on Gaudystraße 8 handles courses and seminars. That leaves the cafe lean and public-facing. You come here for the bar, the staff, and a serious cup, then decide later whether you want to follow the idea deeper.

Coffee style

Espresso is still the centre of gravity. Godshot's own site continues to frame the room as an espresso bar and lounge, and the strongest outside descriptions keep landing on the same point: careful extraction, a bar team that likes talking coffee, and a menu that gives the shot priority over the kitchen. The best version of the visit is still simple. Order espresso first, then decide whether the second round should be another straight shot, milk, or one of the more special beans.

That focus is what separates Godshot from the more polished all-day cafes Berlin now has in abundance. This room was built around the bar rather than around brunch or laptop sprawl. Even when there is cake or a croissant on the counter, the cup remains the reason to be here.

What people go for

Food is a supporting act. The room can carry a pastry or cake stop, and recent reviews still mention croissants and cheesecake, but the place earns its keep through coffee. If you cross town for Godshot, it should be because you want the bar itself: a stronger shot than the average cafe, a bit of conversation, and a room that still feels rooted in Berlin coffee rather than dressed for it.

The feel

Godshot works because it feels lived in. The front room is compact, the extra seating changes the rhythm once you move deeper in, and the quiet street softens the whole stop. Older coverage talked about a living-room-and-industrial mix; recent reviews still describe cosy corners, outdoor seats, and enough space to choose a mood rather than just grab a takeout cup.

That room does not try to do everything. It is better for coffee people, catch-ups, or a slower solo stop than for a full meal. Even the mixed reviews tend to circle the same conclusion: the coffee is why you forgive the rest and come back anyway.

Why Godshot is shortlisted by Filter Notes

Godshot is shortlisted because Berlin still needs one coffee-first address where espresso is the main event and the room has some age on it. Cross town for the shot quality, the multi-level room, and the nearby coffee-lab backstory; know before going that food stays secondary and the bar is the whole point.
